Teamcoaching
choosing to work … together
Are you noticing that cooperation and communication in your team have reached a low point? Is the contact between team members troublesome? Do you feel the way they work together could be improved? Is there more capacity in the team than currently displayed?
In that case team coaching is an excellent option.
What is team coaching?
When you choose team coaching, you offer your team members a safe and pleasant atmosphere that stimulates them to enter into conversation with each other. You will learn together to express opinions, to give feedback, to take decisions and get to agreements. As team coach, I am the neutral outsider who supports you and your team members in this process.
Why choose to work … together? As with individual coaching, team coaching stands or falls with the willingness of the team members to change. This means that they need to be prepared to look at their own part of the patterns that are not fostering collaboration and be willing to talk about it together. Usually this triggers some fear at the start. You need to open up in front of your team members and share how you really think about the issues. This is the key to change. Also as leader you must be able to express vulnerability and dare to examine your own behaviour together with your team.
What is the result of team coaching?
Team coaching supports the development of your team. The team itself makes the choice for it, in conversation with the manager and the team coach. Because the members consciously take this step together, the cooperation and working relationships improve. There will be more understanding about the differences among team members. Decisions will be more supported. The team will learn to better self-direct, work through frustrations and generate creative ideas.
In short, more will be achieved in less time and with less tension and dissatisfaction. It will become more joyful to work together. Who doesn’t want that?
What does this program look like?The first step is that I observe the team during a routine meeting. Afterwards I share my observations and we discuss them. What kind of patterns did I observe? What does that mean? Where is space for improvement? We will also discuss possible developmental questions and goals, in case the team would like to continue working with me.
If that is the case, the next step is a program consisting of five sessions. During the first session, the team will determine together with me their developmental questions and goals. The remaining sessions will be used to achieve these through training, dialogue, experiential exercises and peer-to-peer learning.
Why choose team coaching?
There can be several reasons to choose for team coaching. These are a few:
- Meetings don’t produce what they are meant for;
- There are ingrained behaviour patterns that frustrate the team’s progress;
- Roles and tasks are not clear;
- The team members want to improve the way they work together and get re-energised;
- The team wants to learn how to deal better with conflict;
- The team flounders, without the ability to self-direct.
I am looking forward to having a conversation with you so we can jointly determine the best approach to address your specific concerns.
